A photo story created by me for university, it aims to fight the stigmas of hearing loss. Over 5% of the world’s population face hearing loss, that’s over 430 million people, and 80% of those facing hearing loss use hearing aids, however hearing loss still remains underrepresented and misrepresented in the mainstream media. A study published by Margaret Wallhagen Ph.D., found that hearing loss and hearing aid stigma is strongly associated with feelings of altered self-perception - this photo story aims to encourage more representation of hearing loss in mainstream media without adding to the stigma that already exists around it.
